So you just got a chemical peel (yay, you!)… now what? Because peels require a chemical solution to be applied to the face, it’s important to show your skin some love after treatment. Here are some do’s and don’t’s of after-peel care. Take note!
Do’s
- Use light, healing products that will keep your skin moist, as chemical peels, well, literally peel a layer of your skin off. We will make sure you have exactly what you need.
- Moisturizer in appropriate amounts is key and each peel can be different! Apply moisturizer as directed by your provider. A moisturizer with antioxidants can be the most helpful post-peel. We have some at Azura that we can recommend to you!
- When washing your face, use a baby-soft washcloth or just your fingers and use warm water (not hot, as that will irritate your skin!).
- You should not expose your skin to the sun immediately after a peel, and when you do after healing, make sure to always wear a high SPF!

Don’ts
- Avoid using any deep lotions or other heavy products.
- Limit prolonged sun exposure (and again, SPF is a must!).
- While you should ensure that you’re keeping your skin moisturized post-peel, don’t overdo it, especially if your skin isn’t used to antioxidant-heavy products.
- Don’t exfoliate or try to peel your own skin off! Your skin will shed naturally. (And though it may be tempting, avoid picking at your skin as it starts to flake off.)
Once your skin heals from a chemical peel, you’ll be left with regenerated skin that’s generally smoother, brighter, and appears to show fewer fine lines and wrinkles!
