May 2021 Update: Azura Skin Care Center is no longer carrying Jeuveau®. We do offer a wide selection of other injectables we’d be delighted to discuss with you! Please contact us for a consultation.
Have you heard the news? There is a new toxin in town called Jeuveau® (pronounced Jū vō) and we are one of the first Cary-area practices to Cary it. We’re putting BOTOX® and Jeuveau® head-to-head to help you decide between the #truetox or the #newtox. Either way, at Azura Skin Care Center, we are well trained and well versed in all FDA approved neurotoxins so you can always schedule an appointment for your #Favtox.
What are BOTOX® and Jeuveau®?
You know those pesky wrinkles between your eyebrows that will not seem to go away? BOTOX® and Jeuveau® are both prescription treatments that are injected into the muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as “glabellar lines”.
These neurotoxins are used to relax a muscle and diminish movement. This, in turn, decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When looking in the mirror, you may notice minimal lines or deep lines at rest. These lines can become more prominent with movement, such as lifting your eyebrows, furrowing the area between the brows, or around the eyes with smiling. Both of these products can be used to limit your motion and give a softer appearance.
Jeuveau® and Botox® are very similar treatments that produce similar results. They both have a molecular weight of 900 kDa. They both have very similar risks and potential side effects. They can also be used interchangeably. If you have had Botox® treatments in the past, you can choose to now have Jeuveau® treatments, if you would like.
What Are the Differences Between Botox® and Jeuveau®?
Each treatment is produced in a different facility and is derived from a different strain of the same toxin. Botox®, or onabotulinumtoxinA, is made by Allergan in Westport, Ireland, and Jeuveau ®, or prabotulinumtoxinA, comes out of Seoul, South Korea.
Jeuveau® is purely cosmetic and not subject to any insurance coverage or reimbursement, while Botox® has medical indications and may be subject to insurance coverage in non-cosmetic settings. Because Jeuveau® is purely cosmetic, it saves money on medical-industry vetting and is passing those savings along to the providers and patients.
