If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the “menu” of injectables at a med spa, you aren’t alone. At Azura Skin Care Center, one of the most common things we hear is: “Are they all basically the same thing?”
As our own Jessie, PA, explains in our latest Instagram video, the short answer is yes—and no. While all neurotoxins use the same active ingredient (Botulinum Toxin Type A), the way they are formulated (what they are “bound” to) changes how they behave in your skin.
To help you choose, we’ve broken down the most common questions our patients ask to help you feel confident in your choice.
What is each neurotoxin brand, and when did they start?
A “brand” is just a brand, but history matters for peace of mind. Here is the timeline of the “Big Five” we carry:
- BOTOX® Cosmetic (2002): The “OG.” It has the longest safety track record and is the “tried and true” method for millions worldwide.
- Dysport® (2009): Known for having a smaller molecule, it “spreads” slightly more than BOTOX®, making it ideal for natural-looking coverage over larger areas like the forehead.
- Xeomin® (2011): The “Naked” molecule. It is filtered to remove unnecessary accessory proteins. This is often the choice for patients who feel they’ve developed a “resistance” to other brands.
- DAXXIFY® (2022): The first peptide-based toxin. It’s designed for longevity and speed, often lasting significantly longer than traditional options.
- Letybo® (2024): A global powerhouse that recently arrived in the U.S. It is highly popular overseas for its precision and predictable results.
Which neurotoxin kicks in the fastest?
If you have an event coming up this weekend, timing is everything.
- Dysport® and DAXXIFY® are the “sprinters”—they typically begin working within one to three days.
- BOTOX® Cosmetic, Xeomin®, and Letybo® usually take a bit longer, showing results closer to the three to five-day mark.
Regardless of which you choose, you will reach “peak” results at around two to three weeks.
How long will my neurotoxin results last?
Standard neurotoxins like BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Letybo® generally last between three to four months.
DAXXIFY® is the exception to the rule; because of its peptide-exchange technology, it is designed to last longer for many patients, potentially stretching your time between appointments.
**Results vary by patient.
What is the “Eight-Hour Tox” I’ve been hearing about?
Word on the street is that a new “Fast-Acting” toxin is on the horizon. It is rumored to:
- Kick in within eight hours.
- Last about five to six weeks.
- Be perfect for last-minute “wedding-ready” touch-ups.
We don’t have this in the office just yet, but stay tuned—Azura always brings you the latest innovations first.
Which neurotoxin is right for me?
The truth is, everyone’s biology is unique. Your muscle strength, your history with injectables, and your aesthetic goals all play a part.
